“Samatva” – Intercollegiate Competitions on Gender Sensitization
A one day Intercollegiate competitions on Gender Sensitization, titled Samatva was organized on 4th April, 2018 in auditorium of St. Pious X Degree &PG College for women. The event is sponsored by the Management with the objective to create awareness among the youth on Gender Equality and women Empowerment.
The event was inaugurated by Mr.Kapil Deev, renowned Media Personality and an Effective Speaker. In his deliberation, he gave anecdotes from his life and how he learnt more about the importance of women and the respect they deserve. He also enlightened the audience the significance of gender equality and how a woman is a multi-tasker.
Our beloved Sr. Velangani gave the message on the importance of Gender sensitization in creating gender literacy and how meticulously the competitions were framed based on the themes concerned with Gender equity.
Our Correspondent Rev.Sr. Japamala gave her best wishes to all the participants from the invited colleges and our college for the competition and also gave the significance of gender sensitization.
An e-album comprising the collection of the messages on “Capturing Thoughts” was played in the auditorium.
The response to the event has been overwhelming. Around 277 students from various colleges of the city enthusiastically participated in the five events throughout the Day.
Five different competitions were conducted in the theme.
“Capturing Thoughts” an Online open Competition was organized by the department of physical sciences in which participants were asked to express their expressions on the topics “My daughter My pride and the Woman inspired me”. More than 100 participants (of the age group from 15 years to 75 years) from various countries such as US, UK, Australia, Dubai and different states of the country have participated in the competition and expressed their thoughts.
Abhinaya– Competition in Dramatics was organized by the department of the Commerce. A total of 8 teams from various colleges like Bhavans Vivekananda, Little flower Degree college have participated and gave a stupendous performance on the relevant theme.
MOB GAB- Competition on Group Discussion organized by the Department of Life sciences. Around 16 groups comprising Bhavans Vivekananda college , Kasturba degree college, Cognizant college of commerce, Little flower degree college and St.Pious X degree and PG college have participated in the event. The group discussion event saw the students discussing on various issues pertaining to gender discrimination & empowerment, Reservation bill for women, Gender issues & challenges , equal pay and equal work, problems faced by transgender & gender stratification. All the members of the groups were successful in putting forth their views & exhibiting good leadership & communication skills & it was a quite challenging task for the judges to decide the best.
Nrithyanjali– Group Dance Competitions- Organized by the department of the second Languages. A total of – colleges participated in the competition
Speech Craft – A debate competition on the theme- Enriching and empowering women through Education and Elocution Competition on The most inspiring woman leader in the world was organized by Departments of social sciences. A total of 26 participants participated in the elocution competition and spoke on various inspiring leaders such as Laxmi Narayan Tripathy, Oprah winfrey, Malala etc.
