“Establishing parameters for quality sustenance in higher education” – Two day Staff Orientation Program

IQAC had organized a two day Staff Orientation on “ Establishing parameters for quality sustenance in higher education “ on 2nd and 3rd June, 2016.
The speaker in the first session, Dr. Ramanuj Narayan, Principal Scientist, IICT, delivered a motivational talk on importance and advancement of multi / interdisciplinary research. He stated that in recent years more and more attention is paid to interdisciplinary research and its possible impact on development of sciences. He highlighted the differences between multi and interdisciplinary research. He defined multidisciplinary research as one in which faculty of different disciplines work independently on different aspects of a project while interdisciplinary research is one in which faculty of different disciplines work together on the same project. He cited the example of solar panel, where materials are synthesized by the chemist, material testing and their uses is the job of a physicist whereas fabrication of the product is done by engineers.He encouraged the faculty to take up multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects and promised to provide necessary guidance in the successful completion of the project.
The second session was on “ Steps ahead for Reaccreditation” by Asst.Prof. Srirangam Matthew, Andhra Loyola College, Vijayawada. He shared his knowledge and experience about the reaccreditation process in three steps – Background Information, Departmental preparation and analysis of Peer team report. He focused on the five core values of NAAC, Quality Sustenance, Quality Enhancement and Assessment Report. He empfasised the need to facilitate global competency and value based education, which are also the expectations of NAAC. The session was very interactive as the faculty asked questions and discussed the answers. The workshop on criteria wise inputs was held in the afternoon where the co-ordinators and committee membersof each criterion worked on the questions and discussed SSR documentation. The session was beneficial for clear understanding of the requirements and documentation of NAAC SSR report.
In the last session, Dr. A. Ravindranath , Dean, Academic Affairs & OSD, Planning and Development , Maulana Azad Urdu University, Hyderabad spoke on “ Techniques of Effective Teaching to Foster Active Learning”. He spoke about quality measures and parameters in Higher Educational Institutions. The various important aspects of Institutional building , he said, are faculty, curriculum, pedagogy, research, collaboration, leadership and infrastructure. He emphasized that education is governed by Institution, learning environment , parent support, teacher guidance and communication.
