Haritha-Haram

“Telangana ku Haritha Haram”, a flagship programme was initiated by the Government of Telangana State with an aim to increase the tree cover from 24% to 33% of the total geographical area. The last year in Telangana was declared as drought year due to scanty rainfall which affected the agriculture severely. Hence, the mass plantation programme is being taken up to rejuvenate the tree cover area in the forests and the urban areas.
The NSS committee of St.Pious X Degree and PG College for women, Nacharam also participated in the Haritha-haram programme on 11 th july, 2016. The NSS officers initiated the programme on 18thth June by locating the places where plantation could be done. From 20th June for every two days 20 volunteers were given the task of digging the pits and preparing the land for plantation under the supervision of the NSS committee members. On 4th July Mrs. Malathi Devi, NSS Officer, unit II and Ms. C. Vanisree , NSS officer, unit-I went to the nursery beds at Nacharam and A.S.Rao Nagar and procured the saplings suitable for the plantation at the selected areas. The saplings selected were Tecoma, Bauhinia, Ganuga and Neem.
Finally on 11th July, 2016 the Haritha Haram programme began at 10:00 AM and the first sapling was planted by Mrs. Shanthi Saizen Shekar, Corporator, Nacharam. The Correspondent Sr. Japamala, The Principal, Sr. Manikyam and the NSS Committee coordinators, Mrs. Malathi and Ms. Vanisree of St.Pious X Degree and PG College along with the NSS committee members Ms.V. Rani Padmini, Ms. Rajitha planted the saplings in the Snehapuri colony, Nacharam.
The other NSS committee and PEARL committee members, Mrs. Lalitha Devi, Dr. Sangeetha laxmi, Mrs. Soumya Sree, Mrs. Kala Bharathi along with around 125 NSS volunteers participated in the Haritha Haram Programme near NFC Moulali, Hyderabad. About 130 saplings were planted
