Freshers Day, 2016

The 23rd of July was marked as a memorable day in the life of every fresher at St. Pious X Degree College. The day was filled with joy, music, enthusiasm and happiness. The guest at the event were our Correspondent Rev. Sr. Japamala, Principal Rev. Sr. Manikyam and our Vice- Principal Sr. Velangini. The dress code for the freshers was “Ethnic- Wear.” The programme started with a welcome address by Ms Rajeetha Mondal, Dept of Microbiology, followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp and prayer song by the College Choir.
The most important part of the programme was the investiture ceremony to honour the student council members of St. Pious X Degree College for the academic year 2016- 2017. The members of the student council were elected by the Planning Committee of the College with the support of class representatives. The President Ms. Priya (III B.Com Reg) was honoured by the Principal Rev Sr. Manikyam, followed by honouring the Vice President – Ms. Catherine (II B.A PPML), General Secretary – Ms. Samreen (III B.Sc MSCS), Sports Secretary – Ms. Tejaswini (III B.Com Reg), Cultural Secretary Ms. Aleta (II B.Sc BtBC), Council Member – Ms. Bhavya (II B.Sc BcBC), Executive Member- Ms. Rekha (III B.Com CS), Executive Member- Ms. Senorita (III B.A MPML) and the Executive members Ms. Rekha Evangeline, Ms. Shiny Senorita, Ms. Sheema, Ms. Liya Simran, Ms Adelina and Ms. Vishnu Priya. All of them were greeted with sashes, Badges and Bouquets. Mrs. Nazia Begum, Dept of Microbiology, read out the responsibilities of the council members.
The highlight of the ceremony was the oath taking – a solemn promise and swearing by the elected members to fulfill their duties. The investiture ceremony was concluded by words of appreciation to the council members by the Principal.
The Principal Rev. Sr. Manikyam, delivered an inspiring talk to the newly joined under graduate students.
The investiture ceremony was followed by the cultural programme and the Miss Freshers Contest. The energetic and enthusiastic emcees of the cultural programme were Ms. Ayesha and Ms. Maimuna. The seniors put up various performances like dancing, singing and skit to entertain their juniors and all the juniors were seen having a great time.
The Miss Freshers contest was started with the “ramp walk” round. There were 88 contestants for the first round out of which 27 contestants were selected to enter the second round known as “Talent Round” where the participants had to showcase their talents to the audience in 60 sec. Based on their performance in the Talent Round, 9 contestants were selected for the last round known as the “Question – Answer” round where the selected contestants had to answer the question asked by the judges. The judges were some of the senior lecturers of the college. The results were finally declared at the end of the program. Miss.Queen Shalom was crowned as “Miss Fresher 2016”, Miss. Riya Simran and Miss. Tahniyath Fathima were declared as the first and second runners up respectively and
Miss Riya also won the title of “Miss Popular” and Miss Shirin won the title of “Best Attire” and “Best Talent” was won by Miss Ramya Shri.
The program concluded with the vote of thanks and “Showers of blessing” sung by the final year students. The freshers thanked the Principal, Staff and senior students for hosting such a nice program that they could cherish life long.
