Over a decade, the students and the faculty, in collaboration with ITC WOW have been organising various Environmental Programmes. The Green Volunteers from B.Sc, B.Com and B.A visit schools and colleges to promote environmental awareness programmes.
On 12th& 13th July 2016 with the support of the Management, all the departments and students collected more than 3 tons of old books and news papers. The ITC WOW in return gave classmate note books, pens, pencils and certificates to all the participants. The correspondent Rev. Sr. Japamala, Principal Rev. Sr. Manikyam and Vice-Principal Rev. The outcome of the programme: As a college unit, by recycling more than 3 tons of paper, we saved 66 full grown trees and these trees reduce tonnes of Co2 years to years. Saved 21,000 gallons of fresh water, which is sufficient drinking water more than 30 years for one human.Saved 12,300 kilowatt-hours (45 GJ) of electricity, the same is enough energy to power the average Indian village for eighteen months.Through paper recycling we saved huge quantity of fuel, which is sufficient for a normal village family for next nine year.
Paper industry is creating approximately 3.67 tons of Co2 for producing 1 ton of fresh paper, through waste paper recycling it will reduce the air pollution by 74%.Paper recycling is not only impacting on environment but also generating livelihood for humans, just through recycling of 3 tons paper we were instrumental in generating jobs for 60 man-days.
